Landscaping calculator: mulch, gravel, sod and edging
Bulk material math punishes guessing in one direction: depth. Mulch at two inches and mulch at four inches are the same bed and double the yards, and the delivery minimum usually means you cannot correct it cheaply afterwards.
This calculator is in build. It will convert irregular bed shapes and depths into cubic yards and bag equivalents for mulch, gravel and topsoil, plus sod rolls, edging lineal feet and weed fabric.
Estimates only — not a quote.
Included in the takeoff
- Bed area from rectangles, circles and irregular shapes
- Cubic yards and bag equivalents at your depth
- Sod roll or pallet counts
- Edging lineal feet and stakes
- Weed fabric and delivery-minimum check
Inputs
- Bed shapes and dimensions
- Material and target depth
- Bag size or bulk delivery
- Edging and fabric preferences
Plan it in 5 steps
- 1Sketch the beds
Break irregular beds into rectangles and circles you can actually measure, then add them together.
- 2Set depth deliberately
Depth is the biggest cost lever in bulk material. Two inches versus four doubles the order.
- 3Compare bags to bulk
There is a crossover point where bulk delivery beats bags. Check it before loading a truck twice.
- 4Measure edging separately
Edging is lineal feet around the bed perimeter, not area — and stakes go with it.
- 5Confirm delivery minimums
Bulk suppliers often have a minimum yardage and a delivery fee. Factor both into the comparison.
Planning guidance only. Every quantity and price is an estimate — confirm dimensions and local requirements before you buy or build.
